Every year, Kenya joins the rest of the World in commemorating, celebrating World Wildlife Day. This is usually an opportunity to celebrate Kenya’s many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people.
On 29th February KWS Isiolo Station led the celebrations which were held in the heart of the scenic, cultural, wild Leparua community located in the far stretch of Isiolo, neighboring Laikipia County. It was a day marked with a fill of heritage -pride, a sense of biodiversity ownership and a commitment to do more to conserve megafauna.
KWS Rangers, Osinoni Nature, students, community of Leparua planted more than 100 trees at the Leparua Primary School. The blend of native, fruit trees was donated by Oreteti Indigenous Tree Center. At the school, pupils got an opportunity to interact and learn about conservation. It was an opportunity to emphasis the need of making conservation a process of earth care as opposed to events ,while inculcating the culture of nature-care and fostering environmental protection stewardship. There was a break of energetic Maasai dance that decored the day to a reminiscent experience. As usual,”together, let’s create a future where wildlife thrives and ecosystems flourish”!
