We have come a long way following a small beginning in November 2021. While implementing different environmental initiatives, our thrust has always been on working through people’s participation. At Osinoni, we have always believed in the capacities and capabilities of the communities, striving to channel their hidden energies for the betterment of the precious environment hence benefit society and the natural world. Our efforts have always been directed towards creating an environment that is conducive of enhancing opportunities to local people to think and act positively. We have always endeavored to develop skills and competencies of the local communities to tackle environmental challenges that affect their daily lives in a way that appreciates their diversity in terms of culture, economic livelihoods and other social orientations.
Among our achievements so far, include Full rehabilitation, protection and conservation of 4 big springs along the Isiolo River, restoration of a 7km stretch riparian land, establishment of a unique indigenous tree nursery that has been able to produce more than 12,000 seedlings of close to 35 different species. Also initiated the process of establishing a Botanical garden which will act as a center of plant rescue, conservation and learning. Osinoni has also trained more than 100 community members on conservation of wetlands while empowering them through jobs from time to time in line with availability of funding. We have secured worth partnerships in the conservation field and community development like Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Cetrad, Impact Trust, Global Green Grants and Rotary International.
Our signature philosophy has led us to adopt a holistic and participatory approach to conservation. We believe in inclusive, holistic approach, covering all the sections of the society, advancing solutions that matter to people and nature. We work with community structures i.e women, elders, youth since each brings its own unique experiences that enriches our gallery of solutions and answers to difficult questions when it comes to the complex subject of environment and people.
